Roller Coaster Companies

Here you can learn about the designers of roller coasters. Long before construction can take place, these companies compete to come up with the best idea and design to thrill riders the most.

Arrow Dynamics

Founded in 1946, Arrow Dynamics served a big roler in early coaster development. They started off making many rides for Walt Disney at his new park, Disneyland. After moving on from Disney, they went on to create Magnum XL- 200, the first roller coaster to reach 200 ft tall. Another of their big accomplishments was X (later renovated to X2), the 4th dimension roller coaster. Although, by this time their pace has slowed to give way to other manufacturers and they went bankrupt in 2002. Fellow competitor, S&S Worldwide, bought the company specifically for their 4th dimension roller coaster.

Bolliger and Mabillard (B&M)

Founded in 1988, B&M is one, if not the biggest roller coaster manufacturer today. They have built more roller coasters than any other manafucter with 85 currently running. B&M is best known for their variety of roller coaster styles including the: stand-up, inverted, floorless, flying, hyper, dive, sitting, and winged coasters. They currently have 22 roller coasters featured in the Golden Ticket Awards' top 50 list, with 5 of them in the top 10. A list of their roller coasters can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolliger_and_Mabillard

Chance Rides

Originally founded in 1961, but reformed in 2002, Chance Rides mainly supplies other companies with roller coaster trains but have built a few smaller coasters themselves. Their biggest roller coaster is Superman el Ultimo Escape at Six Flags Mexico.

Intamin
Premier Rides

Founded in 1979, Intamin is a big supplier of modern roller coasters and they are known for being innovative and creative with their designs. Intamin is widely recognized for their creation of the LIM launch and their new hydraulic launch system which can propel riders to speeds of 150 mph on their fastest roller coaster: Formula Rossa. Intamin is also famous for their Mega Coasters (over 200 ft), Giga Coasters (over 300 ft), and Strata Coasters (over 400 ft). They currently hold the top 2 places for best steel coaster (according to the Golden Ticket Awards) for Millennium Force (Giga Coaster) and Bizarro (Mega Coaster). Another of Intamin's most famous creations is the "Plug and Play" wooden coaster. These wooden coasters feature prefabricated tacks that make for a tall, fast, and smooth ride while still maintaining a complete wooden look. El Toro, the #1 wooden roller coaster in America, was made using this process.
